These pages reflect the grants awarded subsequent to our last year end and since August 1, 2023. At our coming year end, July 31, 2024, these grants will form the core of our next annual report. These pages are updated regularly. Those grants marked with an asterisk ( * ) are new awards.
Family & Community Services
Wild Strawberry Children's Centre, Winnipeg WSCC started as a pre-school daycare out of a church basement. They have moved, expanded, and continued to serve more age groups in the West End of Winnipeg. They operate out of three locations. In 2021 they purchased a building at 836 Ellice Avenue to consolidate their daycares. This grant helps towards an emergency grant to cover major repairs at their Ellice avenue location. | $10,000 |
Canadian Red Cross, Winnipeg CRC mission is to help people and communities in Canada and around the world in times of need and support them in strengthening their resilience. This grant helps fund the Canadian Red Cross Indigenous Drowning program in Manitoba. | $15,000 |
Teen Challenge of Central Canada Inc., Flin Flon TCCCI provides communities, families, and individuals freedom from the impact of life-controlling addictions. Challenge (ATC) is a leading substance use disorder program with centers across the world. They provide evidence-based treatment offering holistic services to those battling addictions, such as behavioral therapy, and help dealing with withdrawal symptoms in a supported environment. This grant helps towards the purchase of furniture for their new office in Flin Flon. | $15,000 |
Town of Churchill TOC is both a town and municipality with a population of 800 and provides municipal services to its' residents as well as the tourism industry for the surrounding area. This grant helps towards the research trails conducted by the U. of M. for an in-vessel composter to compost town food waste in order to reduce methane production etc. | $5,000 |
Calvary Temple Inc., Winnipeg CT and Noami House are situated in downtown Winnipeg, the area where many refugees and newcomers first find accommodation. The Tea and English program at Calvary Temple have been in existence for almost ten years. This English program provides speaking, listening, reading, grammar; and pronunciation instruction for students who have levels 2-4 English competency. This grant helps towards the English program for refugees and newcomer adults at Calvary Temple. | $5,000 |
St. Matthew's Non-Profit Housing Inc., Winnipeg SMNPH also known as WestEnd Commons was incorporated in 2009. They are in Winnipeg's core area. There are 26 apartments in SMNPH. The mission of SMNPH is to provide non-profit housing with support and provide space for community resources for the diverse population in the West End of Winnipeg to build strong families and communities. this grant helps towards replacing their existing roof. | $10,000 |
Winnipeg Inner City Missions WICM is committed to providing a healthy community for children, youth and families. They serve in the inner city of Winnipeg, especially disenfranchised Indigenous groups. Their programs are Indigenous focussed and primarily led by Indigenous individuals, especially Indigenous women. Their programs include their long term after-school program that attends to Indigenous youth and other visible minority from the nearby King Edward School. This grant helps towards the purchase of a commercial dishwasher for their centre. | $15,000 |
Villa Rosa, Winnipeg VR was founded by the Sisters of Misericordia in 1898 to serve young, unwed mothers. They provide accommodation and education for pregnant women in need in the Province of Manitoba and counselling, pre and post natal care as well as parenting and personal growth programs. This grant helps to purchase a new van for their centre. | $15,000 |
The Community Exchange in Altona. TCE was established as a community hub to make a positive difference in the everyday lives of community members and to promote health and well-being. Their focus is on activities geared towards providing individuals and families an opportunity to connect to the community. This grant helps towards the installation of power doors for their front entrance. | $7,500 |
Eastman Crisis Centre Inc. (Agape Table), Steinbach ECC (Agape Table) is a shelter from domestic abuse in Steinbach. They have a 16-bed capacity. In addition to temporary housing, services include information, counselling, and ongoing support. Domestic violence is seen as a community issue, affecting men. women, children and families. This grant helps towards funding for the Healthy Community Youth / Teen Program Initiative. | $15,000 |
West End Community Resource Centre, Winnipeg Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community Association Inc. has adapted a commercial name known as the West End Resource Centre. Legally, the organization is still DMSMCA, but they added West End Resource Centre as a notion name. Their commitment to their funders and the community remains the same: To empower the community of Daniel McIntrye / St. Matthews to achieve social, cultural, economic, and environmental wellbeing. This grant helps towards the purchase of a new van for their programs. | $15,000 |
Greek Community of Winnipeg Foundation, Winnipeg GCWF is a permanent fund established in 2018 to receive and professionally manage and administer community donations to provide a long-term source of income to be invested back into the community. The foundation's target population includes but is not limited to the Manitoba Hellenic Cultural Centre, St. Demetrios Greek School, Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, and on-going Winnipeg community support. This grant helps towards adding and renovating a community library and bookstore. | $15.000 |
Gowns for Grads, Winnipeg GFG was started in 2011 at St. John's High School and is managed by volunteers who collect donations of formal gowns and accessories which are then redistributed to graduates facing financial hardship. This grant helps towards the purchase of plus size dresses for high school graduation. | $5,000 |
St. Matthew's Cathedral, Brandon SMC is a designated heritage building in Brandon. It is an inner-city church and offers many outreach programs for vulnerable people in the community. It also provides meeting space, free of charge, for several community groups, such as AA, Gamblers Anonymous, etc. This grant helps towards the installation of a stair lift in the Cathedral. | $15,000 |
Inner City Youth Alive Inc., Winnipeg ICYA is focused on giving hope to disadvantaged youth in Winnipeg's core. They provide a drop-in centre, a wilderness camp as well as a meals program. Their 20,000 square foot facility on Aberdeen Avenue provides a safe place for kids (ages 5-18) from the downtown, Point Douglas, Burrows, and St. John's neighbourhoods. ICYA provides meals for kids who live in poverty, abuse, or neglect. Meals for kids provide nutritious meals and snacks in a safe environment. Parkland Crossing / Dauphin Church of Christ PCDCC bought the former Mckay Residential School from Western Christian College in 2003 and started Parkland Crossing in 2004. They provide services to the community, such as having a 34 rooming house rooms, and 24 apartments to provide affordable housing. the local food bank runs out of their facility and is open every second Thursday. A hot meal is provided for the tenants using the Food Bank. This grant helps towards operating a food bank at Whitmore School. | $7,500 |
Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada, Winnipeg UCWLC'S mission is to foster the spiritual, educational, cultural, and personal development of its members while promoting leadership and social services. This grant helps towards the English training program to support Ukrainian newcomers. The intent is that the longer-term goal is to assist these newcomers to overcome barriers related to employment, social networks and mental well-being. | $15,000 |
St. Paul's College, Winnipeg SPC's the Catholic college in the Ignatian tradition at the University of Manitoba promotes learning, both secular and spiritual, through excellence in research, teaching, and service. This grant helps towards the restoration and refurbishment of the chapel's exterior to preserve the heritage, cultural roots, and community spirit of the college. ` | $15,000 |
Initiatives for Just Communities, Winnipeg IJC works to create communities where each person, particularly the stigmatized and vulnerable has a place to belong. They serve participants in Winnipeg and the Eastman Region of Manitoba. IJC provides residential support, vocational training, outreach programming, day programming, home shares, and supported independent living. This grant helps towards the purchase of a Toyata Sienna to add to their vehicle fleet. | $15,000 |
*St. Thomas Anglican Church, Winnipeg STAC operates a Kreative Kids program and the Kreative take out meal program. Many of the youth who participate in the Kreative Kids program volunteer for the Kreative Kids meals program. They provide families with weekly family requests such as school supplies, nursery items, cleaning supplies and emergency groceries. Kreative Kids also provides take home crafting kits for the young. This grant helps towards the Kreative Kids program and the Kreative Kids meal program,. | $7,500 |
Health
Open Access Resource Centre, Winnipeg OARC operates programs aimed at providing augmentation and adaptive communication equipment to persons with disabilities. They are committed to improving the lives of Manitobans with communication challenges using speech-generating devices. This grant helps towards the purchase of seven communication systems that will provide speech-generating devices to children who do not have funding for their own communication systems. | $13,500 |
Special Olympics Manitoba SOM is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with an intellectual disability through sport. They support Manitobans with intellectual disabilities from age 2 through adulthood. Sports programs are offered year-round, with ten sports offered in the summer and eight in the winter. This grant helps towards the purchase of furniture for their new office space. | $15,000 |
The Lung Association, Manitoba TLA is the primary resource for lung health in Manitoba. They run programming, provide online resources, invest in research, and promote healthy breathing. This grant helps towards the expansion of the "Lungs for Life" curriculum to integrate education and awareness of tuberculosis. | $10,000 |
Kidthink Children's Mental Health Centre Inc., Winnipeg, KCMHC is dedicated to the early intervention and prevention of mental health and addiction issues in children under the age of 12. Established in 2019, they provide extensive resources and support not just to the children, but also to their parents, caregivers, pediatricians, and educators to collectively contribute to their holistic well-being. This grant helps to expand their Client Care program to low income and multi-barriered children and families who are not able to afford these services. | $15,000 |
*U-Turn Parkinson's Inc., Winnipeg UTP is a charitable wellness centre for people living with Parkinson's disease in Manitoba. Their mission is to empower people living with Parkinson's in their pursuit of wellness. They offer condition-specific, accessible exercise and wellness programs, educational opportunities, and special events in person in Winnipeg, and online for those across the province to participate at home through pre-recorded videos etc. This grant helps towards free-of-charge virtual and in-person support groups for people living with Parkinson's and their care partners / families. * | $7,500 |
House of Hesed (Manitoba) Inc. Winnipeg HH is a transitional housing program in Winnipeg that provides housing and support to individuals living with HIV / Aids regardless of race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation. Several of their residents are diagnosed with a variety of life altering illnesses in various stages of health with some requiring minimum support and others needing significant support. This grant helps towards painting and exterior repairs and the purchase of a network attached storage server to upgrade their computer System. | $8,000 |
The Children's Rehabilitation Foundation, Winnipeg CRF's mission is to raise funds to improve the lives of children ages birth to 21 that have physical and / or developmental disabilities. The CRF's Adapted Equipment Program helps to address gaps so that children with disabilities can reach their potential. This grant helps towards purchases for the Adaptive Equipment Program. | $15,000 |
Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Winnipeg MDC was founded in 1954. Today it represents over 160 neuromuscular disorders that affect 50,000 Canadians, including over 12,000 with a disorder in Manitoba. MDC has 5 key service areas: education, information, advocacy, support, and equipment. the organization continues to search for cures through research. This grant helps towards funding the equipment program. | $15,000 |
Education
The Horse Connection Inc., Winnipeg THC mission is "to empower youth to engage in their education and community and achieve personal success through hands-on learning experiences with horses." They focus on improving the lives of youth facing challenges and adversity and providing them with the support and skills they need to reach their fullest potential. This grant helps towards the purchase of three updated Mac laptop computers for remote communicators for instructors. | $4,500 |
Arts & Culture
The Royal Winnipeg Ballet RWB was established in 1938. Their mission is to teach, create and perform, enriching lives through the power of exceptional dance. The RWB offers Professional and Recreational programs for ages 3 to adult, which also offer performance opportunities. This grant helps towards the digitization of a selection of recordings of the RWB's most significant performances. | $3,500 |
Village Conservatory, Winnipeg VC are an arts education organization dedicated to providing high quality post-secondary performing arts education with a commitment to be egalitarian and welcoming to all. They help emerging artists find and create work by developing practical skills and connecting them to the larger arts community. This grant helps towards the "It Takes Two" project. | $5,000 |
Children's Museum Inc., Winnipeg CM's mission is to enhance the cultural , social and educational resources of the community through the development and operation of a children's museum. *Theatre Projects Manitoba, Winnipeg TPM operates in the production and public presentation of Theatre in Manitoba. The made in Manitoba work supports local artists and includes ongoing rural outreach initiatives. They engage with theatres and organizations on a national level while promoting the skills of Manitoba writers, actors, designers, technicians, and craftspeople. Manitoba Craft Council Inc., Winnipeg MCC's mandate is to promote, support and advocate for contemporary crafts and craftspeople in Manitoba. Their vision is of a thriving craft ecosystem that contributes to the rich and diverse cultural life of Manitobans. They were founded in 1978 and are the province's only not-for-profit artists' service and exhibition organization dedicated exclusively to contemporary craft. This grant helps towards the Growing Craft: Nurturing New Partnerships in Community Engagement Project. | $10,000 |
Freeze Frame, Winnipeg FF's mandate is to advance education in the media arts for and with children and young people, and to produce cultural and educational media projects in English and French. Winnipeg Film Group, Winnipeg WFG is an artist run education, production, exhibition, and distribution center committed to promoting the art of independent cinema. Located in the Artspace Building it was established in 1974 as one of the first non-commercial film Production Centers in Canada. This grant helps towards their 50-year anniversary that will host a series of events throughout the year to present innovative, artistically driven cinema and publications to celebrate its significance in Canada's contemporary culture and history. | $10,000 |
Lord Selkirk Robert Fraser Memorial Pipe Band, Winnipeg LSRFMPB's has a 63 year history of instructing youth in the skills needed to read music and play the highland bagpipes, snare, tenor, and bass drums. Their mission is to instruct children ages 8-18 of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in the playing and performing of Scottish pipe and drum music. This grant helps towards their Winter Workshop. | $3,500 |
Prairie Fire Press, Winnipeg PFP's objective is to publish, present and review new high-quality literacy work by emerging and established writers, and to provide and educational platform for dialogue amongst writers, readers, educators, and the broader community. They distribute a quarterly literacy magazine both nationally internationally. This grant helps towards the purchase of a Mac desktop computer. | $2,500 |
Services for Seniors
Teulon & District Handi Van Service TDHVS mission is to provide accessible transportation that is safe, reliable, and affordable to seniors, persons with disabilities and those with mobility issues in the Town of Teulon, RM of Rockwood (Wards 5 & 6) as well as portions of the RM of Woodlands and the RM of Armstrong (Inwood). Heritage
Jewish Heritage Centre of Western Canada Inc., Winnipeg JHC mandate is to acquire, interpret, convey and share the history, experiences, achievements, culture and religious life of the Jewish people of Western Canada and to establish and maintain a Holocaust Education Centre. This grant helps toward creating an exhibit on "Jewish Communal Life and the Role of Women". | $5,000 |
389 Main Street Heritage Corporation, Winnipeg, It is called the Millennium Centre and takes care of all the private and public events. It is operated by Heritage Winnipeg which manages the day-to-day operations of the building. This grant helps towards the repair of the maple hardwood floors on the Mezzanine. | $7,500 |
Mennonite Heritage Village, Steinbach MHV was established in 1964 to preserve an exhibit the story of the Russian Mennonites and their contributions to Manitoba. The facility houses over 17,000 artifacts that are enjoyed by approximately 50,000 people, including 2,400 students. They grant helps towards the replacement of the rooftop HVAC tubes. | $10,000 |

Reconciliation
*Broadway Neighbourhood Centre Inc., Winnipeg BNC delivers a wide range of programs and services to enhance quality of life, with a particular focus in the West Broadway area. This neighbourhood has a higher-than-average population of people living on low and fixed incomes. Many of the residents, particularly youth, have limited means with which to fully engage with the community in a healthy way. This grant helps towards fostering indigenous language and its preservation. | $9,000 |
Graffiti Art Programming Inc., Winnipeg GAP uses art as a tool for community development, social change, and individual growth. Exhibiting artists work with young and emerging artists to develop exciting ways to use the arts as a tool to engage with social justice issues, fostering skills developing and strengthening community. GAP delivers weekly workshops and mentorships on both a drop in and registration basis, after school, on weekends and holidays throughout Winnipeg's North End and downtown neighbourhoods.
