These pages reflect the grants awarded subsequent to our last year end and since August 1, 2022. At our coming year end, July 31, 2023, these grants will form the core of our next annual report. These pages are updated regularly. Those grants marked with an asterisk ( * ) are new awards.
Family & Community Services
Toba Centre for Children's Youth Inc., Winnipeg, TCFCYI provides support to child victims or witnesses of crime and abuse in Manitoba. The centre provides services to children as young as 3 and up to age 18, from across the province. They partner with child and family services, victim services and the police. This grant helps towards renovating their new space in Assiniboine park. | $30,000 |
Miami Recreation and Play Spaces, MRPS is a new charity. They received their charitable status in February 2022. Their vision is to work with community partners to provide early childhood education programs that enhance school readiness with a target of children under 6. This grant helps towards the Wiggle & Giggle and Munch, Rock and Read programs. | $3,000 |
Habitat for Humanity Winkler -Morden Chapter, HFHW/M with the help of sponsors, supporters and volunteers, builds safe, and affordable homes for purchase by low-income working families. This grant helps with the construction of a new house in Winkler. | $10,000 |
Victor Play Centre Inc., Winnipeg, VPCI is a childcare centre located in the West End of Winnipeg. They serve families of all economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. This grant helps with the fire escape repairs for their centre. | $2,500 |
Aulneau Renewal Centre, Winnipeg ARC works with individuals, couples, and families to develop therapeutic plans that meet their specific needs through therapy, education, support, and guidance. It is their commitment to provide a variety of services that have unique specialties and are tailored to meet every client's needs. This grant helps renovate their reception area. | $15,000 |
St. John's Ambulance, Winnipeg SJA is a worldwide, non-denominational charitable organization that is over 900 years old. Through funding from First Aid and CPR courses, SJA operates two community programs: Medical First Responders (MFR) and Therapy Dog (TD) programs. This grant helps towards purchasing the land adjacent to their building for future programming. | $25,000 |
RM of De Salaberry, St. Pierre-Jolys RM of De Salaberry, is located to the east of the Red River, approximately halfway between Winnipeg and the US border along Highway 59. The municipality holds the jewel of southeastern Manitoba in Lake St. Malo along with the St. Malo Provincial Park, one of the busiest Provincial Parks in Manitoba. This grant helps construct an accessible rest area for anyone travelling through St. Malo. | $15,000 |
The Canadian CED Network, Winnipeg CCN is a national, member-led organization, headquartered in Victoriaville, QC, that promotes "community economic development", or CED, to reduce poverty, homelessness and promote community revitalization. In Manitoba, the work of the network is overseen by a Manitoba Regional Committee. All activities are in Winnipeg, including the "Spark" sevice which has been previously funded by the Thomas Sill Foundation. This grant helps fund the current "Spark Program". | $15,000 |
Arcane Horizon Inc., Winnipeg AHI provides services to people in Winnipeg with intellectual disabilities. They operate 16 residential homes, 4 home-share homes, a SIL/transitional living program as well as a drop-in program. This grant helps fund projects which include roofing, weather proofing, safety and health, and flooring for their center. | $15,000 |
West Broadway Development Corporation, Winnipeg WBDC serves an area bounded by Portage Avenue (north), the Assiniboine River (south), Maryland Street (west) and Osborne Street (east). This agency's mission is to plan and coordinate neighborhood renewal efforts through economic and social development. It seeks to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of residents. Wings of Power., Pine Falls WOP is a community resource serving the Powerview-Pine Falls area. They have a building that includes a thrift store, adult programs, children's programs, prenatal and postnatal classes, free computer classes, an adult with disabilities day program etc. Their primary clients and participants are members if Sagjeeng, Black River and Hollow Water First Nations. This grant helps with the purchase of a van to help their clients with monthly trips, pickups, and volunteering to shop and distribute food. | $15,000 |
Thrive Community Support Circle Inc., Winnipeg TCSC is dedicated to offering services that are inclusive to all persons, regardless of race, religion, age, and gender, in all stages to cultivate life, provide opportunities for empowerment, and to grow the community they serve: through community services including programming, therapeutic counselling, drop in, thrift shop and childcare. This grant helps towards the expansion of their building at 555 Spence Avenue. | $50,000 |
RM of Wallace - Woodworth, Virden, The EMPR project is a group of volunteers with a goal of rejuvenating their park. The revitalized park will serve their community and the surrounding communities of McAuley, Kirkella, Cromer and Hargrave. This grant assists in creating a barrier free inclusive environment that will appeal to all ages and provide multiple uses to their community while promoting physical and mental health. Our grant will help with the new walkway and lighting for the park. | $15,000 |
Seed Winnipeg, SEED is one of Winnipeg's best social service agencies that addresses inner-city poverty. For almost 30 years, SEED has emphasized respect within the community, innovation, removing barriers to success and the interconnections of all individuals. Local decision making, support for local endeavors, etc. This grant is payable over two years and assists with Asset Building Programs. | $50,000 |
Western Manitoba Regional Library, Brandon, WMRL covers six regions including the City of Brandon. Its regions include: the Town of Carberry, Neepawa, Municipalities of Cypress-Langford. Glenboro South Cypress and Grassland. The City of Brandon is the largest library in the region; and this grant helps purchase new shelving for the Brandon library. | $15,000 |
Bookmates., Winnipeg, Bookmates is the only organization focused solely on family literacy in Manitoba. They offer a broad range of family literacy programs and services to help build important foundational learning skills needed to succeed in school and beyond, including family programs, parent workshops, training for service providers, literacy kits, e-resources, children's books and more. This grant helps towards bridge funding for their literacy program. | $12,000 |
Altered Minds, Winnipeg, AM provides responsive programs and services to vulnerable people in Winnipeg and rural areas that assist individuals in adapting to change and overcoming barriers to a good quality of life. their target populations include refugees with limited English/ French, low-income and unemployed people, people who have not completed high school, people with disabilities, youth, and seniors. This grant helps with their "Computers for Life" program. | $20,000 |
Habitat for Humanity Manitoba, Brandon Chapter HFHMBC was established in 1987. Their mission is "by mobilizing volunteers and community partners, HFHMBC works with people from all walks of life to build safe, decent, affordable housing for purchase by low-income working families. This grant helps towards a new build in Brandon. | $15,000 |
Swan Valley Animal Protection League SVAPL operates an animal shelter located in Swan River, Manitoba. They promote the welfare of animals through spray/neutering programs and provide care and shelter to stray, abandoned and surrendered animals. They also operate a foster adoption program. This grant helps with the installation of a septic field, electrical work and outdoor fencing for their shelter. | $7,500 |
Pembina Counselling Centre, Altona PCC is a not-for-profit counselling serving the Pembina Valley. Their purpose is to help individuals who are struggling personally or in relationships, to gain direction and find lasting hope. They have three offices in Morden, Winkler, and Altona. This grant helps with renovations for their Altona office. | $10,000 |
Ten Ten Sinclair Housing Inc., Winnipeg TTSI provides accessible and affordable housing to individuals who live with a physical disability and want to live in the community. They recently broadened their services to individuals who have a physical disability and additional challenges such as mental health, addictions, or cognitive problems who wish to develop the skills to live independently. This grant helps towards the asbestos removal from their flooring in the Merv Thomson room. | $10,000 |
*Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature, Winnipeg Manitoba Museum's mission is to acquire, preserve and share Manitoba's history, culture, and natural world, and to inspire discovery and understanding of Manitoba. It is the province's largest heritage center, unique in its combined human and natural history themes, & multidimensional interpretation etc. This grant helps towards the new exhibit, Cougars in Manitoba, for the Upper Parklands Gallery. This exhibit will include a cougar mount in walking pose, and an articulated skeleton mount of the specimen that will mirror the walking pose of the life-like mount. | $15,000 |
*Evergreen Basic Needs, Gimli EBN is in Gimli. The centre services a greater part of the Interlake Region. They offer a variety of programs such as a food distribution hub. Life Essentials Programs whereas registered individuals get access to clothing, household items, furniture, and appliances. EBN Cafe, helps clients learn work and life skills and provide meals at reasonable prices etc. This grant helps towards their "Refresh" project. They want to repaint the interior of their building. | $7,000 |
Health
Pallium Foundation of Canada, Ottawa, PFC is a national organization that trains health care professionals to provide effective and compassionate palliative care. They are also leading the national Palliative Care ECHO project (Extension for Community Health care outcomes) that aims to establish continuous professional development for health care providers who care for patients with a life limiting illness. This grant helps towards the Leap (Learning Essentials Approaches to Palliative Care) training for 60 frontline health care workers in Manitoba. | $15,000 |
Heartwood Healing Centre, Winnipeg, HHC, formerly The Laurel Centre facilitates the healing journey of people who have experienced childhood sexual abuse and increase society's understanding of this form of trauma. They do this by providing therapeutic services, strengthening support systems, exchanging knowledge, and raising awareness. All their services are free of charge. This grant helps towards a new roof for one of their buildings. | $8,500 |
Forward House Ministries Inc., Winnipeg FHMI offers a 24-hour holistic support and housing to men who have experienced marginalization, incarceration, addictions, mental health issues, homelessness, and poverty. They have a residential setting in Winnipeg that has 25 beds available for men. Their goal is "to provide safe transitional and permanent supportive housing for men in recovery". This grant helps towards the Art Therapy Project and Art Show & the St. Raphael Wellness Centre on-going recovery program. A portion of the grant is for emergency covid assistance. | $20,000 |
Victoria General Hospital Foundation., Winnipeg VHF is dedicated to advancing healthcare at Victoria Hospital and in the community. They are committed to supporting, enhancing, and transforming mental health care and the care of older adults across the continuum of care. This grant helps to transform a designated outdoor space at Victoria Hospital to support patients in their recovery. | $20,000 |
Grace General Hospital Foundation Inc., Winnipeg, GGHF aims and objectives are to raise, invest and allocate funds generally to, or for the benefit of, the Grace General Hospital. This grant helps towards building a Staff Wellness Room that will consist of a yoga/mediation room, a relaxation retreat room with massage chairs, a comfortable zone for socializing, several personal pods for resting, and a lactation lounge. | $30,000 |
Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation Inc., Winnipeg, SOGHF is a lower acute community hospital serving the northwest corner of Winnipeg and a provider of shared services for the rest of Winnipeg. The funds raised by the SOFHF support the patients, programs, research, facilities and services at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, the Wellness Institute and Chronic Disease Innovation Centre. This grant helps towards renovating their 10-room dementia unit at the hospital. | $40,000 |
Hope Air Inc., HAI is Canada's only national charity providing free flights to low-income Canadians who must travel for medical care that does not exist in their communities. Their vision is that everyone in Canada has access to the healthcare they need, despite distance or cost of travel. This grant helps towards travel arrangements, accommodations & meal vouchers for patients in Manitoba. | $5,000 |
Regenesis Centre for Recovery, Winnipeg, RCR is a new charity established in 2020. Their mission is to acknowledge the role of oppression based on identify and its effect on addiction and mental health. This program is for those who have historically been underserved in these areas of healthcare. Their mandate is to cultivate a life-long relationship of positive support and community involvement with each of their clients. This grant helps to complete an application to submit to CMHC for the NMCIS new construction program. | $15,000 |
*Resource Assistance for Youth Inc., RAY seeks to provide services that meet the immediate and long term needs of marginalized, street entrenched and / or homeless youth up to 29 years old. Ray's service model is called a HUB model which includes a basic needs and hot meal program, four distinct housing programs, an employment and training program, and access to primary health, mental health and substance use supports. This grant helps towards "Ray Wired" a virtual mental health platform. | $15,000 |
*The Kidney Foundation of Canada Inc., Winnipeg, KFC raises funds to deliver programs and services, champion advocacy efforts and be a support network to the more than 150,000 Manitobans who live with kidney disease. The Manitoba branch supports nationally driven programs like medical research and education programs but are also a local provider of assistance, education and support. This grant helps towards the purchase of new board room / meeting room tables and chairs. | $5,000 |
Education
Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba Inc., Winnipeg, Ircom Inc. empowers newcomer families to integrate into the wider community through affordable transitional housing plus onsite programs and settlement services. They specialize in supporting newly arrived refugee families in their first years in Manitoba and are unique in that they have two residential facilities coupled with on-site, highly accessible services - including psychosocial supports to enable accelerated settlement and integration success. This grant helps towards the purchase of classroom furniture for their Newcomer Literacy Initiative (NLI) and the Homework and Educational for Youth programs. | $15,000 |
St. Aiden's Christian School, Winnipeg, SACS is an independent school with two campuses, one on Aberdeen Avenue and the other on Hargrave Street. The schools target at-risk, low-income students, and recent immigrant and refugee children who have limited English skills. This grant helps towards the purchase of science equipment for their new high school chemistry program. | $10,000 |
Children & Youth
Edge Skills Centre, Winnipeg ESC, is a community-based charity that provides adult education. English as a second language and career services to disadvantaged adults in Winnipeg for over 30 years. Eligible participants are low-income adults, adults on income assistance and immigrants and federally sponsored refugees. This grant helps towards painting on their third floor and 2 staff offices in their building. | $12,000 |
*Manitoba Camping Association Inc., The MCA, through the Sunshine Fund, provides a summer camp subsidy program for the financially disadvantaged youth ages 6-17. This grant helps towards the 2023 Sunshine Fund Camp season. | $30,000 |
Arts & Culture
Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg WMCW is the oldest continuously operating musical organization in Winnipeg. They have 5 concerts each year and promote Manitoba musicians through performances and by awarding scholarships. Their mission is "To support emerging musicians of all identities through scholarships and performance opportunities and to present outstanding artists, thereby encouraging and advancing classical music in the community." This grant helps to rebuild their website. | $5,000 |
Winnipeg Studio Theatre, The WST produces, creates, and develops Canadian and international contemporary plays and musicals, as well as operating a Studio Works Academy, that provides professional experience and mentorship to future Manitoba performers age 10-18. They want to bring in more diversity at every stage of the theater, from early-stage performer development to production material. Their goal is for performers to include more IBPOC (indigenous, black and people of color), neuro-diverse, physically disabled, LGBTW2s and associated caregivers. This grant helps towards the production of "Fame: the musical". | $7,000 |
Shakespeare in the Ruins, Winnipeg, SIR was founded in 1993 to produce Shakespearean theatre in a "promenade" format. That is, the actors and audience move outdoors from set to set. Its first productions were performed in the St. Norbert Trappist Ruins, hence the company's name. In additions to performances at the ruins, they tour throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and northern Ontario to support English and drama curriculums. This grant helps towards the ten-episode podcast series called Roots, to preserve the history, stories, expertise, and creative personalities of Winnipeg's older performing arts community and a new audio drama written and performed by senior artists. | $7,000 |
Esprit de Choeur, Winnipeg, The Esprit de Choeur Women's Choir serves a community of music lovers, artists, composers, and musicians. It is among the top tier of Manitoba choral groups - a hidden gem among Winnipeg's cultural groups. Its focus is on excellence of the choral artform and mentorship for female singers. *Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra., WSO has been an important part of Winnipeg's culture. They present a new music festival annually and presents a summer season performing at outdoor venues in Winnipeg and Harbourfront in Kenora. In 2011, the WSO launched the Sistema program in partnership with the Seven Oaks School Division, the first Sistema inspired program in Canada connected with a professional symphony orchestra. This grant consists of two instalments. The first instalment goes towards purchases of instruments used in the Sistema program and repairs and the second instalment is for the Sistema program expansion for the 2023-24 school year. | $25,000 |
*Pembina Hills Arts Council, Morden., The PHAC began in 1988. It facilitates and encourages the growth and diversity of arts and culture for Morden and surrounding communities by providing an environment which stimulates artistic expression and awareness through education, programming, and provision of administrative support. The catchment area includes over 20,000 people. This grant helps towards the purchase of banners, vinyl decals and IKEA shelving. | $1,000 |
Services for Seniors
McCreary / Alonsa Support Services for Seniors MASSFS aids seniors that like to remain in their homes independently. They service the RMs of McCreary and Alonsa. They operate a congregate meal program in Alonsa, including meals on wheels. This grant helps towards the purchase of a stove and other equipment in Alonsa. | $2,500 |
*Menno Home for the Aged Inc., Grunthal Grunthal Menno Home for the Aged is a non profit senior's home run by volunteers. They provide housing for low-income seniors and people with special needs. This grant helps towards the construction of a sunroom for their senior's home | $15,000 |
*Glenboro South Cypress Oakland Wawanesa Handi-Transit. This handi-transit is jointly operated between the Glenboro South Cypress and Oakland Wawanesa municipalities. The RHA also utilizes the service for various patient transfers and equipment returns on a regular basis. Personal care homes and hospitals in the area frequently utilize their services to attend appointments locally. This grant helps towards the purchase of a new handi-van. | $15,000 |
Heritage
Tyndall Ukrainian Orthodox Church, TUOC has been operating since 1933 and is designated as a municipal historic site. It is the last remaining church out of six that operated in the Tyndall area. It was built by volunteers and is a testament to the faith and commitment of early pioneers that came from Ukraine. This grant helps towards the renovation of the church. | $7,500 |
The Service Battalion Senate, Inc., Winnipeg TSBSI provides support and guidance for the Combat Service Support Museum, some financial support for the Winnipeg Grenadiers Cadet Corps and donations to military-related causes or organizations. This grant assists with the research and development of a short documentary about Camp Hughes. | $5,000 |
Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada Inc., Winnipeg RAMWCI has grown to be one of the country's largest aviation museums. This museum is home to an extensive collection of aircraft ranging from transport to military, private and commercial, as well as thousands of aviation artifacts. Paroissee Saint Joachim de La Broquerie, PSJB serves the RM of La Broquerie, an area of 7,000 people as well as residents of St. Labre and Woodridge, Manitoba. It is a designated French language parish. The Parish church was built in 1901 and was designated as a Municipal Designated heritage building in 2000. This grant helps to replace the rope and pulley system to ring the bell on the church and includes installing LED lights to illuminate the steeple at night and make it visible from a distance. | $7,500 |
*Societe historique de Saint-Boniface, Winnipeg, SHSB is a community archives facility whose mission is to acquire, preserve and promote the francophone and Metis heritage of Western Canada, with a particular focus on Manitoba. The SHSB operates the Centre du patimoine, a well-equipped state-of-the-art archival facility with over 730 archival fonds dating from the early Red River Settlement era up to present day, all documenting the francophone and Metis experience of the West. This grant helps towards an archival project which aims to inventory, identify, and prioritize sharing of indigenous language materials, as well as to support efforts in language revitalization and cultural reclamation. | $6,500 |
