Frequently Asked Questions

General questions

Why the change?
The change was required to establish the long-term viability of the Fund and provide a permanent legacy to Thomas Sill.

What is the difference between The Thomas Sill Fund in my local community foundation and The Thomas Sill Manitoba Fund in The Winnipeg Foundation?
Thomas Sill Funds were established in communities where Thomas Sill’s accounting firm had a practice (Winnipeg, Brandon, Selkirk, Morden, Altona, Winkler). The Thomas Sill Manitoba Fund (held by The Winnipeg Foundation) was established to provide annual funds to all eligible Manitoba community foundations.  Future applications from charities outside of Winnipeg should be made to your local community foundation. If your charity is inside Winnipeg, requests can be made to The Winnipeg Foundation.

Will the criteria for The Thomas Sill Fund in my local community foundation be the same as the current TSF guidelines?
No. The criteria for The Thomas Sill Fund in your local community will follow the policies of that particular foundation.

My community does not have a local foundation, are there any Thomas Sill Funds we can apply to for a grant?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. However, should your community form a foundation, it could be added to the foundations eligible for the annual grant from The Thomas Sill Manitoba Fund. Also, you can contact the foundation nearest to your location to determine your eligibility.

Is the Foundation still accepting grant applications?
The Thomas Sill Foundation will accept grant applications until October 31, 2023.

Is there a single point of contact if I have a generic question about the Thomas Sill Foundation?
